I Love My Honda CRV
The Journey to Buying and Loving My Hona CRV When I was shopping for a new or new to me vehicle a few years back I was first thinking about economical to run and so was considering a diesel VW wagon. The larger wagon was too expensive and the smaller one was feeling too small - too cramped inside and not enoght storage. I was used to my Subaru which is a good sized wagon. The small wagon was too noisey and the seat was extremely uncomfortable for my butt. In retrospect I am glad I didn't go that route as the cost of diesel has skyrocketed and so the perceived fuel economy vanished. Next I thought about a hybrid vehicle and tried out a Ford Explorer which was really expensive to start and I realized that a hybrid does not fit my driving profile. I drive almost exclusively long distance highway trips. But the huge downfall for me was zero storage space and with my kind of travelling I definitely require storage space. Awe ... and then the idea of wanting to have a vehicle that was higher off the ground for better visibility and definitely one with good storage and as economical as possible. After some research into vehicles with good fuel economy I stubled onto the Honda CRV. After looking at new and used I became more convinced I was heading in the right direction. Used Honda CRVs do not become available all that often so when I got a call to check out a gold 2001 model I went for it. At that point I had become convinced that I wanted a moon roof and was undecided about manual or automatic. After the test drive I became clear that I definitely wanted automatic and was even more certain about a moon roof which this particular car did not have. Besides I had my large suitcase with me and by a few inches it did not fit into the back. I wasn't that crazy about the color gold either so it was an easy choice to let that one go. A couple of days later a 2002, silver, automatic with moon roof became available. I went in immediately and thus began my love affair with my Honda CRV. I am especially in love with all the amazing nooks and cranies for storage, the cupholders and the color is great (the best thing is I didn't have to decide on what color I wanted since it was the color that it was - take it or leave it) and I totally love the visibility and the placement of the handbrake. And did I mention that my big suitcase fit by more than a few inches. The body was redesigned to be larger in the 2002. This vehicle so works for me I am definitely in love with it and have no desire for any other car, at this point in my life. This has been fun writing about my car buying journey. |
